"SHALL I COMPARE THEE TO A SUMMER'S DAYS?"
For this assignment we
had to identify five elements of a Shakespearean sonnet,
they were background picture, identify octave, sestet, rhyme scheme, Iambic Pentameter.
The background picture had to be a picture that relate to the poem, I choose a
summer day because that what the author describe his woman as a summer day. The
octave was eight lines and sestet was the rest seven lines. The rhyme scheme is
the pattern of rhymes
at the end of each line of a poem. The iambic pentameter is defined by its rhythm of pairing ten syllables for
each line into five pairs, this was one of the most difficult part because I still
have trouble with it. The first thing we did was read
as a class, this time Dr. Griffin discuss about how a poem relate to relationships.
If it would be cute or awkward if a guy gives you a poem describing you as a
summer days. Everyone said it depends on the situation sometime it would be
nice if you know the person but if you don’t if would be weird. After, he read
it and describe what we had to do for the assignment, I was fine with the assignment
because there’re fair to do. The only thing that I was worried was I was still
working with the poem “Annabel Lee” and I was wasn’t even close to done. Having
two assignment to complete had never happen so far, so I was nervous to
complete them fast but in the right one. I wasn’t done with “Annabel Lee” but I
started working with this poem as well because I didn’t want to be more behind.
I was doing fine until I reach the Iambic
Pentameter, I still don’t get it but I tried my best to do it the right one. I change
it like two times because I know it wasn’t right. I ask Dr. Griffin if it was
right he told me just to try to read the poem in the tone he does. I did I just
hope I did a least an okay with it. I did this assignment because poems are my
weakness I have to try to strength that weakness. Also, because we have a
project coming up that we have to choose a poem and memorize it, so I want to
see which poem I can do for this project.
